“AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.”
One goal of AVID is to introduce students to as many professions and careers as possible, as well as expose students to positive and inspiring experiences. One way we are able to do this is by inviting guest speakers into our classrooms to share their stories. If you are interested in being a guest speaker or would like to recommend someone to speak, please click the appropriate link.

Our partnershipsStudents for Community Health, are a group of students with a shared interest in public outreach, geared towards improving the health of the Charlottesville community. Their projects are geared towards patients of all ages, and present a unique opportunity for students to learn basic medicine. Most recently, they have hosted a number of events for both adults and children, with a focus on health education and general screening. They are also working with our students every Tuesday and Thursday after school.
Day in the Life, is a program that was established in 2002 in response to concerns about academic progress of students in the Albemarle and Charlottesville communities. Since its inception, the program has reached thousands of students in schools and community agencies. To date, more than 5,500 U.Va. students have provided more than 90,000 hours of tutoring and mentoring assistance to nearly 20,000 area youth Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge Operates under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the area’s leading provider of evidence-based mentoring, their agency makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteer mentors (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in our Charlottesville and Albemarle community. If you are interested in your child participating in this fantastic program please click below for more information. |
